Summer Learning Journey Christmas card
This week with the SLJ I decided to do a Christmas card but because Christmas is already over I changed it a birthday card for my friend Chloe. I folded paper and taped it in the middle of the card so it would pop out and look 3D. The videos had lots of fun ideas and I want to try out some others when I have time. What do you think of my card?

Summer Learning journey fingerprints.
Today with the Summer Learning Journey I looked at fingerprints. I used Nanogirls suggestion of using sticky tape to take an impression of my fingerprint. Then I took a photo of the tape and zoomed in on the picture so I could see what type of fingerprint mine was. Mine was arched.
I cropped the photo in so it only shows a small part of my fingerprint because I didn't want to put my whole fingerprint online in case someone frames me for a crime.
Here is my photo.
Next I am going to find out if cats have different paw prints from each other. What do you think?

The Terrible storm by Indi
For writing this week we had to wright about this pitcher here is my work:
BANG! went the thunder. The waves crashed against the boat. The boat started rocking side to side. The animals were getting scared. Noah was trying to steer the boat around the rocks but it was very difficult. The giant waves were crashing against the side of the boat. There was lightning and thunder everywhere and the rain was pouring down. The animals were soaking wet and freezing cold. The small animals were sheltering under the beds. The sky had turned from grey to black and the lightning was hitting the water. Suddenly the boat crashed into some rocks!
The boat started sinking underwater and some of the animals were struggling to stay on, sadly some of the animals lost their grip and slid off the side of the boat. They splashed into the freezing cold rough sea. The animals started swimming.
Luckily Noah spotted an island that was close by and he pointed the animals in that direction. The cold trembling animals swam to the island and dragged themselves on the sand. They huddled together in a group to try and keep warm while they waited for the others to arrive. Noah and the other animals were close behind and swam to the island quickly. The boat fully sunk into the deep sea and was never seen again.
The End
Have you read Noah's Ark?

Why I should be allowed to stay up later
This week for writing we had to do persuasive writing. Here is my writing.
I should be allowed to stay up later.
I should be allowed to stay up later these are my reasons:
Firstly, I want more time to do the things I like. The things I like to do are: watch tv, play board games, do art, play with my kitten, read and play. By staying up later I would have more times to do these things I like to do. When I go to bed earlier I don’t have much time so I don’t get to do everything.
Secondly, I want more to spend more time with my parents. Parents stay up later and kids go to bed earlier so if kids stay up later they would spend more time with their parents. If I was allowed to stay up later I could spend more time with my parents without my sisters. It takes me a long time to fall asleep so I shouldn't just have to lie there waiting to fall asleep when I could be talking to my parents.
Thirdly, as I get older I get more homework and have to stay up later to finish it. Also, as I get older I should stay up later because I don't need as much sleep.
In conclusion, if I was allowed to stay up later I would get more time to do the things I want to do, I would get to spend more time with my parents, and as I get older I need to stay up later because I have more homework and don't need as much sleep. These are the reasons why I should be allowed to stay up later.
Do you think I should be allowed to stay up later?

Reading: Paralympics 1964 vs 2020
Goal: To compare and contrast information from videos and articles
This week for reading we have been learning about the Tokyo Paralympics in 1964 and 2020 and how they have changed. Here is my slideshow. Have you watched any of the paralympics?
Last week for writing we had to try and persuade someone on something. My writing was about why I should be allowed another pet. Here is my writing.
I should be allowed another pet.
I should be allowed another pet these are my reasons.
Firstly it would teach responsibility.
I would take very good care of it by feeding it, playing with it, paying for all its toys, food, bedding, bowls with my money, and clean up after it.
Secondly, another pet would not annoy my parents.
It could sleep in my room and I wouldn't get upset if it chewed up my stuff , slobbered over everything and messed up my stuff.
Thirdly, it would keep me entertained and stop me getting bored.
I would take it for walks everyday happily, I would take it to the park for a run.
I would play with it outside everyday and would teach it tricks and how to walk backward.
Also, I could get in from the SPCA which would help the animals.
Animals are often hurt that don't have a home. It's better to adopt animals from the SPCA rather than buy one from a petshop or trademe. Pets from the SPCA have already been wormed and spayed and had their shots so that saves you money because you don't have to go and get it done at the vet because its already been done. Also, if they don’t get adopted from the SPCA they might get put down.
In conclusion, I should be allowed to have another pet because it would teach responsibility, it wouldn't annoy my parents, it would keep me entertained and stop me getting bored, and it would help the animals at the SPCA, this is why I should be allowed another pet.
Do you have any pets and want another one ?

Facts about Lisa Carrington
For reading last week we had to make a slide show about Lisa Carrington. My favourite fact I found out was that she played netball as a child and wanted to be a Silver Fern (I also play netball). On my last slide I wrote a list of questions for her.
My favourite question was: If a kid wanted to be a kayaker when they grow up, what could they do now to get started?
Here is my slide show.

Bookathon success!
Our SPCA fundraiser.
We (Indiana, Emilie, Mila, Alyssa) did a bake sale to raise money for the SPCA. We raised $412.50!!! We sold crafts and baking. It was very fun and a lot of hard work. We are delivering the money and having a tour of the Christchurch SPCA in the school holidays. We have now helped the Blind/Low vision NZ with our bookathon and now the SPCA. We are thinking who we can help next.
Small ripples create big waves
Today at school we made a poster about 'small ripples create big waves'. It means if you do something mean and do it again and again it can turn into a bigger problem.

Summer learning journey optical illusions
I did some optical illusion photos π¦₯π☁️ it was a bit tricky and a bit frustrating because we didn't know where to stand. In the end we looked like tiny little people and it was funny. I took mine at the art center and botanic gardens. Mum and I are trying to draw a duck optical illusion picture. I am colouring it in but it is taking a long time.
Here are my tricky photos. It was fun. Do you like my optical illusions?

Summer learning jorney. A balancing act
I didn't have any rocks or pebbles to stack so I used cups. I used all the cups in the house and went quite high. My tower was stable, not wobbly. I loved watching the rock stacking video and I watched some of his other ones I want to try it one day so mum is going to take us to birding flat one day to collect some flat stones.
Here is my stacked tower. It is 6 cups across and 6 cups high. I added a flag on top π¦πΊ

Summer learning journey. My dam
Beavers build dams to stop the water flowing down the street to make a pond to safely live in . On the weekend me and my family went down to orton Bradley park and built a big dam. First I got big rocks and started stacking them on top of each other then we put little rocks in the gaps of the dΓ m we managed to slow down the water but not stop it completely. I got a bit dirty and it was really hard work but it was fun. After we built our dam we went and got ice creams. Here are some photos of my dam.
